Sri Lanka is a true emerald island, blessed with an incredible diversity of forests spread across the country. Each region offers a unique forest experience, making the Sri Lankan forest landscape both rich and fascinating.

Across the island, you can find many types of forests, including:

• Lowland rainforests
• Moist monsoon forests
• Dry monsoon forests
• Riverine (riverbed) forests
• Mangrove forests

At present, Sri Lanka’s forest cover is about 29.8% of the total land area. The Forest Department has set a clear goal to increase this to 32% in the coming years, ensuring greater protection and sustainability.

Thanks to its varied climate zones, rainfall patterns, and ecosystems, Sri Lanka is home to one of the most diverse forest environments in the region.
